In our Fagor pressure cooker review, we will take a look features, what makes it great, some of the drawbacks, and if we think you should buy it.
The Fagor Duo pressure cooker, currently $99.95 at Amazon.com is designed to take advantage of two modern trends – the need to make food preparation fast and easy, and the trend towards healthier diets.
Pressure cooking can be up to 30 times faster than using a conventional stove or microwave. Many of the recipes available online can be used to create single pot meals for up to 6 people.
Another popular use of pressure cookers is for side dishes and to tenderize tougher cuts of meat. That doesn’t mean you can’t cook fish or chicken. With the right recipe you can make some of the more delicate main dishes easier than on the stove.
The Fagor Duo stainless steel pressure cooker is available in several different quart sizes. The smaller 4 and 6 quart size is ideal for the small family or single person; larger families or party cooking can be done in any quart size 8 and above.
Each pressure cooker is made from restaurant grade 18/10 stainless steel. This insures that heat is spread evenly when cooking so there are no cold spots in the cooker. Each Fagor Duo model incorporates a locking safety handle with trigger release that is tied to the visual pressure indicator.
The pressure indicator has both a low and high setting, which makes the Fagor Duo more versatile in the kitchen than similar pressure cookers in the same price range. It also comes with a steamer basket that has a trivet base and all the parts of the pressure cooker are dishwasher safe.
Each pressure cooker is also packaged with a booklet of easy pressure cooker recipes to help you get started.

What’s Great About the Fagor Duo Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker?
Fagor has standardized some aspects of their Duo model, and this is one of the reasons their pressure cookers are top rated.
With pressure cookers, the non-metal parts can get ruined fast as they are not as resistant to the heat and pressure that allows these cookers to cook super fast. While most manufacturers will just make replacement parts per model easily available, Fagor standardized the main ones.
Every Fagor gasket is the same size. This means no hunting around for your product information to find the model and serial number when it fails. You can simply click and order a gasket and you are guaranteed you have the right one.
Another reason for having one of the best pressure cooker ratings is the pressure gauge and release system. This gets a little awkward because it is also the reason why the Fagor Duo stainless steel pressure cooker doesn’t score a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
As something to rave about, the system is wonderful. Most customers report that after cooking with the Fagor Duo for several months that their experience with the gauge is impressive due to its reliability. If the included cookbook says it will take 5 minutes at a high pressure to cook a recipe, then it will not take longer.
The pressure release is handled by turning a knob. This is much different, and safer than traditional rocker style pressure release system on many other types of pressure cookers.
What’s Not Great?
Despite all the great features of the Fagor Duo model, it does have some downsides. This pressure cooker loses some steam as it builds pressure, and then the steam release vent closes off once the cooker reaches the set pressure level.
This is normal behavior for a pressure cooker, where the Fagor Duo pressure cooker falls short is the location of the steam release vent. The vent is at the base of the handle. This means that if you need to move the cooker while it is rising in pressure, you risk a burn on your hand from the released steam.
It is easy to work around this by wearing an appropriate cooking glove, but it is a great concern for anyone with children or young chefs in their kitchen.
The second main drawback of this stainless steel pressure cooker has to do with the handle, lock and pressure relief gauge and indicator. All of these are made of plastic, which means they can melt very quickly, if not used properly. That should be no problem as there is the manufacturer 10 year replacement warranty on the parts of the Fagor Duo stainless steel pressure cooker.
Unfortunately, that warranty only covers replacement parts. If the plastic parts melt, you will have to buy a model specific replacement.
Fagor Duo Pressure Cooker Review – Should You Buy It?
The Fagor Duo stainless steel pressure cooker scores a high 4 out 5 stars in our review, and is one of the best in the $100 range of pressure cookers available.
It is well made, durable and has a reliable pressure system. One of the best things about this model is the standardized replacement gaskets, which will make it much easier to find a replacement for.
The main downside is the placement of the steam vent, which is a potential safety hazard. This prevented us from giving it a 5 star in our review.
All in all, there is little to say to not recommend this cooker. If you are looking for a way to increase the speed of your cooking and improve your diet, this is a great choice for your kitchen.
